GPS estimates the device position using the Global Positioning System. Thereby the duration of satellite signals is used to calculate the distance to more than three GPS-satelittes. The position of the device is then determined by trilateration. As the duration of satellite signals is heavily extended by walls, roofs etc. it is recommended to deactivate GPS in indoor environments.

Charateristics

  • Provides position in world coordinate system.
  • Depending on the environment and weather conditions the accuracy varies between 1 and 10 meters. The accuracy decreases rapidly in indoor environments.
  • Standard deviation of several meters.
  • The position is updated with roughly 10Hz.
  • Requires a GPS sensor.
