Regcats/doc

This user categories template will declare up to nine regional and national categories when placed on your user page. This template is commonly invoked by other templates as a metatemplate. The complete syntax is:

where:

• region= the required region name as listed in Wikipedia
• the= places a "the " before the region name in the regional resident and regional interest user categories (default=null)
• adj= the adjective form of the region name (default={{{region|}}})
• root= the root name of the regional project (default={{{region|}}})
• group= the type of regional project:
  • group=WikiProject (default)
  • group=work group
  • group=task force
  • group=other
• member= the type of regional project membership:
  • member=none
  • member=member (default)
  • member=participant
  • member=volunteer
  • member=other
• res= determines the regional residence user category:
  • res=no (default)
  • res=yes declares the user a member of [[Category:Wikipedians in {{#if:{{{the|}}}|the }}{{{region|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
  • res=other declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{res|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
• cit= determines the regional citizenship user category:
  • cit=no (default)
  • cit=yes declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{adj|{{{region|}}}}}} Wikipedians|{{PAGENAME}}]]
  • cit=other declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{cit|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
• des= determines the regional ancestry user category:
  • des=no (default)
  • des=yes declares the user a member of [[Category:Wikipedians of {{{adj|{{{region|}}}}}} descent|{{PAGENAME}}]]
  • des=other declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{des|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
• int= determines the regional interest user category:
  • int=no (default)
  • int=yes declares the user a member of [[Category:Wikipedians interested in {{#if:{{{the|}}}|the }}{{{region|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
  • int=other declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{int|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
• pro= determines the regional WikiProject membership category:
  • pro=no (default)
  • pro=yes declares the user a member of [[Category:WikiProject {{{region|}}} {{{member|member}}}s|{{PAGENAME}}]] or [[Category:{{{region|}}} {{{group|}}} {{{member|member}}}s|{{PAGENAME}}]]
  • pro=other declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{pro|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
• nocat=true disables the operation of this template

The following seven parameters pertain only if the region is a subdivision of a Sovereign state:

• nation= the required nation name as listed in Wikipedia only if the region is a subdivision of a sovereign state
• nthe= places a "the " before the nation name in the national resident and national interest user categories (default=null)
• nadj= the adjective form of the nation name (default={{{nation|}}})
• nres= determines the national residence user category:
  • nres=no (default)
  • nres=yes declares the user a member of [[Category:Wikipedians in {{#if:{{{nthe|}}}|the }}{{{nation|{{{region|}}}}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
  • nres=other declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{nres|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
• ncit= determines the national citizenship user category:
  • ncit=no (default)
  • ncit=yes declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{nadj|{{{nation|{{{region|}}}}}}}}} Wikipedians|{{PAGENAME}}]]
  • ncit=other declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{ncit|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
• ndes= determines the national ancestry user category:
  • ndes=no (default)
  • ndes=yes declares the user a member of [[Category:Wikipedians of {{{nadj|{{{nation|{{{region|}}}}}}}}} descent|{{PAGENAME}}]]
  • ndes=other declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{ndes|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
• nint= determines the national interest user category:
  • nint=no (default)
  • nint=yes declares the user a member of [[Category:Wikipedians interested in {{#if:{{{nthe|}}}|the }}{{{nation|{{{region|}}}}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]
  • nint=other declares the user a member of [[Category:{{{nint|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]

Restrictions

• This template will function only in the User namespace.
• This template may be disabled with a nocat=true parameter.

Example

Placing the following Wikitext on your user page:

{{regcats|region=Puerto Rico|adj=Puerto Rican|res=yes|cit=yes|des=yes|int=yes|pro=yes}}

will declare the user page a member of the following five user categories:

• Wikipedians in Puerto Rico
• Puerto Rican Wikipedians
• Wikipedians of Puerto Rican descent
• Wikipedians interested in Puerto Rico
• WikiProject Puerto Rico members
