GPS estimates the device position using the Global Positioning System. Thereby the duration of satellite signals is used to calculate the distance to more than three GPS-satelittes. The position of the device is then determined by trilateration. As the duration of satellite signals is heavily extended by walls, roofs etc. it is recom-mended to deactivate GPS in indoor environments.
Charateristics
- Provides position in world coordinate system.
- Depending on the environment and weather conditions the accuracy varies between 1 and 10 meters. The accuracy decreases rapidly in indoor envi-ronments.
- Medium standard deviation of several meters.
- The position is updated with roughly 10Hz.
- Requires a GPS sensor.
